“This is why I was born, and why I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Every one that is of the truth hears my voice.”
Our Savior is our King, but His kingdom does not come from this fallen world. He, who proceeds from the Father, rules over the Kingdom which flows forth from the Holy Trinity. He came to bear witness to the truth so that we might become followers and citizens of His kingdom, so we might hear His voice.
What is the testimony, then? God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son so that we might not perish, but have eternal life. This testimony was given from the throne of the Holy Cross, as our Almighty King faced down Sin and Death and destroyed their power to enslave humanity, as He conquered the father of lies and prince of darkness and shined the light of truth into the abyss of the underworld of Hell, as He trampled underfoot the prison-gates of Hades.
Our Creator saved us. He freed us. He made us His children and heirs. So why do so many of us live in fear? Why live in anxiety? Why live downcast, angry, sad lives instead of joyful, free, inspiring lives?
We might suffer? OK. So did Christ and the saints. It purifies our hearts.
We might be opposed? OK. Again, so did Christ and the saints. It purifies our wills.
We might lose what we have? OK. “Foxes have dens, birds have nests. The Son of Man has no place to lay His head.” (Matthew 8:20)
We are free children of God. Jesus Christ is our King, and He has made us His heirs.
Let’s not be afraif to act like we have something good, holy, and joyful to bring to the world.
