We must keep in mind St. Paul’s admonition to understand the Gospel. If we live according to the flesh, we die; but if we live according to the Spirit, we live. Uniting ourselves to God through prayer and faithfully living the law and the Beatitudes is how we do this.
When we live in the Spirit, we can understand today’s Gospel. Our lives on this earth are short, and we must keep this in mind. The dishonest steward saw his end, forgave debts, and prepared. We, sooner than we expect, will be called to account for our lives. We must forgive those who have wronged us and be generous with the wealth of this world that we have attained, for we cannot bring it with us.
Let us live in the Spirit and prepare for eternity.
